7 Tips for Choosing Jeep Speakers

Did you know that in March 2018, there were almost 100,000 Jeeps sold in the US alone?

If you’re a Jeep owner, you’re already aware of what an awesome vehicle it truly is. There’s just one thing that could make it even better, and that’s a great sound system.

If you’re looking to upgrade your sound system in your Jeep, then one of the most important Jeep accessories you’re going to need is quality speakers.

Read on as we take a look at some useful tips for choosing the best Jeep speakers.

1. Know What You Want

There is a huge range of speaker options, so you need to know in advance what type of speakers you’re looking for.

There are two main choices: full-range speakers and component speakers. Full range speakers contain all the different elements in one unit; a tweeter for highs, a woofer for lows, and sometimes a mid-range driver too.

Component speakers are made up of separate tweeters and woofers, and even subwoofers. Component systems can offer superior sound.

2. Know Your Sizes

It may seem obvious, but you’ll need to be sure you’re buying the right size speakers for your vehicle.

You might find the best speakers in the world, but if they’re not the right fit, they’re not going to be useful to you. The simplest method is to measure your current speakers and look for speakers that are the same size.

The smarter move is to find a company that specializes in Jeep audio as then you’ll know they’re going to be a perfect fit.

3. Know The Power

Your vehicle stereo will have a head unit or external amplifier that provides power to the speakers.

Most factory-installed stereos don’t offer huge amounts of power, but if you have an aftermarket stereo, or an external amp, then these will produce much more power. You need to be sure that the speakers you choose are rated to handle the power that they receive.

You should consider both the peak power and RMS power rating.

4. Know The Sensitivity

Sensitivity is a measure of how much power the speakers require to produce a given level of volume.

If you have a generic stereo, then high sensitivity speakers will give you more volume for the relatively low power output from your stereo. If you have an aftermarket stereo, or are using an external amplifier, then low sensitivity speakers will still give you a great sound.

5. Replace or Supplement?

If you don’t hate the vehicle speakers you already have, but want to improve the sound, you can consider adding speakers rather than replacing the ones you have.

Standard stereo systems can usually power more speakers than are currently in your Jeep, so you might want to consider adding some speakers to your current setup rather than ripping everything out and starting again.

Adding a subwoofer, for example, is a simple way to make a significant different to the sound of your stereo system.

Choose the Right Jeep Speakers for You

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to Jeep speakers. It’s all about finding the right solution for your needs.

That might be ripping everything out and installing a state-of-the art component system, it might be upgrading your current full-range speakers, or it might be supplementing your current speakers. Whatever you choose to do, we hope your Jeep speakers give you years of enjoyment.
