Overview of Range Rover sentinel

The Range Rover sentinel was manufactured by Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), presented at the 2019 Home Office Security and Policing show in Farnborough. This armoured car is a seven sweater car engineered and built at the SV Technical Centre located at Warwickshire.

The Range Rover sentinel looks similar to the regular Range Rover but you can see the difference, if you look closely. The doors are thicker and LED lights are accompanied in the both bumpers and behind the front grill.

Armoured car

The sentinel is one of safest cars in the world (Armoured car), being capable to withstand .30 caliber, armor-piercing incendiary bullets from weapons like the AK-47. 

This armored car can also resist the enormous explosions of up to 33 pounds of TNT and DM51 grenades.

The most important fact about this armored car is that it can also resist the explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).

The reason behind all the above resistance is the heavy material used in this armoured car. It is accompanied by more than one ton of armor plate and glass to save the passengers on a move from an attack: 2 inches of glass, European Standard VPAM BRV 2009 VR8 and PAS 300; Heavy steel, etc.

Engine

The Range Rover sentinel was first powered with supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine in September 2015.

Later it was upgraded to the 5.0-liter V8 engine in 2019 generating an extra power output of 39 horsepower. The total power produced by this armoured car is 375 horsepower.

The same engine would generate about 570 horsepower on a regular Range Rover.

Transmission 

The sentinel is powered by a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission generating enormous 376-pound feet of torque. 

EMERGENCY ESCAPE SYSTEM

This armoured car is accompanied by an emergency exit, located in the rear luggage compartment. Passengers can exit from this armored car quickly and securely through this emergency exit.

Run-Flat system

This armoured car features a Run flat system, making the tires cover up to 30 miles (50 kilometers) at speeds of 50 mph (80 kph) even if one of the tires is punctured. This can happen because of its 20-inch split-rim alloy wheels used.

Other specifications 

• The sentinel weighs around 10000 pounds (4535 kilograms) and also features a 4G Wi-Fi for up to eight devices connectivity and nine USB charging points.
• The purchaser of the car can ask the company for some modifications in the car if he wants. He can get it optionally fitted with a siren and emergency lighting packages. 
• An additional opening in the front window measuring 150 mm (six inches), enabling the exchange of documents can be made at the time of purchase.
• The sentinel is accompanied by the latest Infotainment System featuring two 10-inch touchscreens.

Land Rover sentinel was able to accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 kph) in 10.4 seconds when powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine.

Now it can accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 kph) in 9.8 seconds, powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine.

This armored car can reach a top speed of 120 mph (193 kph).

Production of Range Rover Sentinel

This armored car was produced in 2015 costing around $480,000.

Later a new variant was manufactured in 2019. No pricing information is revealed by the company yet. According to my studies, it would cost around $550000.

Range Rover sentinel is made to be used by the officials to protect them from terrorist attacks. 

It is also observed that this armoured car is also used by Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India.
