Engine
The Dodge Tomahawk is powered by an 8.3 L (506.5 cu in) 20-valve 90° V-10 engine, able to generate an enormous power of 500 hp (370 kW) @ 5600 rpm and a massive torque of 525 lb-ft (712 N⋅m). The engine displacement of this fastest motorcycle in the world is almost five times that of a typical Harley-Davidson.
Moreover, the Tomahawk borrowed the same V10 engine from the Dodge Viper and was reengineered for the motorcycle format. In addition, the bike accompanies a massive cooling system to deal with the extreme heat produced by the engine.
The robust V10 engine allows this fastest bike in the world, Dodge Tomahawk reach a massive top speed of 420 miles per hour (676 kph), keeping the other things, i.e., aerodynamics, resistance, and stability, constant.
Transmission
The fastest motorcycle in the world is powered by a 2-speed manual transmission, capable enough to handle intense heat and power.
Aerodynamics
The Tomahawk’s top speed of 420 mph (676 kph) is calculated according to the horsepower generated by the engine. However, it can’t reach such high speeds in the real world due to aerodynamic resistance. Because, the air pushes the bike in the opposite direction, making it shaky and difficult to handle. Therefore, no speed test has been performed yet due to aerodynamic stresses, making it impossible to test the top speed physically.
Other Specifications
The tomahawk weighs approximately 1,500 lb (680 kg) and has a fuel capacity of 3.35 US gal (12.7 l). Additionally, it is accompanied by a Horizontal double-fork suspension at the front and a mono-shock suspension system at the rear. This combination of suspension adds stability and improves handling and comfort for the driver. Moreover, the Dodge Tomahawk’s frame is designed from aluminum, making it light for better handling.
Performance of Dodge Tomahawk
This beast can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds, extremely fast compared to not only bikes but also supercars. Evidently, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ also sprints from 0-60 mph at the same time.
Despite its high power capabilities, it was never legalized for roads. Still, it attracted many enthusiasts because of its advanced technology and engineering.
Production and Price
Now, a question might be stuck in your mind; What is the Dodge Tomahawk’s Price?
The production cycle of the Tomahawk was between 2003 and 2006. Only 9 units of tomahawk, priced around 555,000 US dollars, were produced. All 9 units were sold through a reputed chain of luxury American departmental stores popularly known as Neiman Marcus. All the units of Dodge Tomahawk sold were non-street-legal. Each unit was assembled by hand, ensuring quality and reliability.
Legacy of the Dodge Tomahawk
Apart from its speed records, the Dodge Tomahawk has been an innovative invention showcasing high-tech engineering. It has captivated many automotive enthusiasts and also appeared in video games like Gran Turismo.
