This cabriolet used the modified version of engine used in Type 49. It utilized the 3.3 L (3,257 ccs; 198 cu in) engine delivering 135 hp (100 kW) which could create the maximum velocity of 153 km/h (95 mph).
4-speed manual transmission powered the Bugatti 57. The engines of Type 50, 51 utilized bevel gears at the front of the engine to communicate power from the crankshaft, though Type 57 utilized a train of spur gears at the back of the engine, with fiber gear wheels on the camshafts to accomplish quieter in activity.
